We launched our kids bike shop last year because we wanted to make it easy for parents to find great quality lightweight bikes – bikes that last! Our journey with The Little Bike Company has been fantastic so far, we have had the pleasure of meeting excellent suppliers who really care about the products they create and also many parents who are delighted to find a bike shop that has a wide choice of quality kids bikes for fun but also caters for more serious junior cyclists.
The ethos we all share is very simple, more kids having more fun on bikes!
Why do kids need specific cycling clothing?
Alongside the lightweight bikes we have in our range we also pride ourselves in sourcing high quality cycle wear for children and teens and have a great and growing selection for your kids.
For many (especially non cyclists) wearing the right cycling gear may seem to be simply a fashion statement, but to a cyclist it’s all about comfort, staying cool and enjoying the ride.
We have a little info below on the various items of cycling clothing we stock and how they can improve your child’s ride! We’re not imagining them donning the full gear for a quick ride to the park, but for a longer ride of a one hour or more it makes sense to be as comfortable as possible to maximise their fun. You may find you have a future Bradley Wiggins or Chris Froome at home!
Childrens Cycling Jerseys
With the Tour de France well under way you can’t fail to hear people talking about cycling jerseys. The professionals all wear jerseys to keep them as cool and dry as possible even in the hottest climbs. The best jerseys for kids to wear when cycling are extremely breathable and light with fabric that dries quickly. Kids get very hot on a long bike ride and the right jersey will keep them much cooler than a regular t shirt.

Kids Cycling Jackets
A lightweight jacket that can pack away really quickly is essential on a long ride. You can trust the heavens will usually open at some point on a summer ride. We recommend a jacket in a bright high visibility colour to ensure your child can be seen by in bad weather or at dusk.

Kids Cycling Shorts
Cycling shorts fit snugly to avoid any flapping material, are breathable often with mesh panels and can also have padded areas to help protect you from saddle sore.

It’s inevitable that your child will at some point have a fall off their bike. Cycling mitts will protect knuckles and palms from nasty scrapes, it’s human nature to throw your hands out to take the brunt of the fall and it’s very painful to ride with grazed hands, trust me!
Childrens Road Cycling Helmets
Talking of falls, it is important that children wear helmets, especially with road cycling. Road cycling helmets are more streamlined and designed to be cooler (in the traditional sense of the word!) than street helmets. Even if aerodynamics aren’t a particular concern on your family bike ride or cycling holiday, if you are planning a longer ride this kind of helmet will be far more comfortable for your child.
